Inside HerVest with our Gen Z Creative, Feranmi

2 Mins read

Inside HerVest is a monthly series where HerVest staff members share interesting facts about their job roles and lives. Here, they share tips for thriving in their industries and things we never knew about them. In this edition, we talk to our innovative Genz creative, Feranmi Abiola, Videocreator at HerVest. Enjoy the conversation!

Let’s meet you please?

My name is Feranmi Abiola, a video creator for HerVest.

How would you describe your job to a 7-year-old child?

I would say  it’s like telling a story, but instead of using words or drawings, we use a special camera to capture pictures and scenes. These pictures are like puzzle pieces, and we put them together in a certain order to make a movie. We can also add sound, like talking, music, and special effects, to make the story even more exciting.

One fun fact about you?

I have a strong passion for sports, especially football. If I had known about the crazy money in football, I would have been pursuing a career as a professional footballer today. On the other hand, I could be a talent manager, if I had taken it more seriously, I could have excelled as a successful and influential music talent manager.

Out of pure curiosity, what motivated you to become a videographer?

Storytelling. There’s this passion within me, to just tell beautiful stories. And what better way to do that other than videography. (Should I add that fear of Sapa played a very huge role in this development?)

Do you have any favourite resources, such as books, websites, or courses, that have helped you in your videography journey?

I’d say social media. Twitter and YouTube especially. I saw a lot of inspiring stuff there that made me push myself. The top guys in the industry were doing a lot and just seeing it really motivated me.

What’s your favourite part of working with HerVest?

The people. Working with them, relating with them and also the fact that I get to be a part of something as beautiful and impactful as what HerVest is doing. Working with Solape and Yomi are the top 5 coolest bosses I know, it’s also one of my favourite things. That I get to brag about how chill they are.

How do you stay inspired and keep your creative juices flowing?

Consuming  work in my field. You name it, movies, music videos, documentaries . I just go out there and look for stuff I would want to do someday and just consume them. I’ve always loved to watch and assess cinematic productions from way back. It just really helps me see the great work others have done and how I can be better. It motivates me to do more.

What is the quality that distinguishes videographers?

Their minds. It’s just so beautiful how their imagination works. From coming up with ideas during pre-production, to changing the haphazard shots during production to beautiful videos after post production. It’s magical. Most professions either come up with ideas or implement them. Videographers on the other hand come up with beautiful stories and tell them even more beautifully.

What would it be if you could have an unlimited supply of one thing?

Money

Can you share some tips for aspiring videographers looking to improve their skills or start a career in this field?

Consume other people’s work in the field, you can really learn a lot from them. .

Never stop. Keep pushing no matter what others say or when it looks like you’re going nowhere. All that matters is the work you put in. And your determination.

Have a mentor. Someone that puts you through, and you can learn a lot from. A support basically.

Know what you’re getting yourself into. Do adequate research so you know how it could get.

Above all, just put in the work.
